Very ominous error; please help:

When I attempted to conect my Sony TRV19 minidv camcorder to my new Compaq laptop, this very serious message came up right away: (whichI copied word for word here

"The Software you are installing for this hardware
Sony Digital Imaging Vide
Has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP
Continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the current operation of your system either immediately or in the future
Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing.

What's especially weird, is that my laptop (Compaq Presario; Windows XP) is very nearly a "sister-unit" of the desktop I have been using (also Compaq Presario; Windows XP); and that accepts my Sony camcorder with no problem

Can someone advise me, if I may continue on with the installation on my laptop, even though I get that warning

(Gulp! ... "destabilize" sounds pretty scary ...

Thanks
Michae

You shouldn't have any problems. The TRV19, if I remember my model numbers
correctly, predates XP and that is why you get the error. Before installing
however I would suggest going to Sony's website and looking for updated
drivers.

The message simply means that Sony has not pre-submitted the software to
Microsoft for testing and approval.
It does not mean that it will not work. If you check the Sony web site I
expect them to tell you to ignore that warning.

There are a lot of drivers that the makers have not submitted to
Microsoft for formal testing and certification (And paid for it).
Normally they are fine, especially if they are the ones the makers have
said are for XP. Microsoft is just saying 'if it goes wrong don't blame
us'
