Following the outbreak of Sasser, it appears that I have
been infected. However, my Windows XP machine starts, I
get to the black "Windows XP" screen and then it restarts.

All the removal tools appear that I need to at least get
to the Start>Run part of Windows, but I cannot get that
far.

I have tried, whilst restarting the "F8" and starting in
Safe mode, restoring but still the same.

HELP!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Hi,

My recommendation to your would be running a windows
repair on your system. PLease note you will not loose any
data or programmes but you will loose your windows
updates. For loosing the XP updates you can order a
security cd from the web (No charge) at
www.microsoft.com/southafrica\security
Here are the steps on how to run a windows repair. After
running the reapair it is important you patch your machine
with the critical updates before going onto the net.
1. Insert your Windows XP CD.
2. Restart the machine.
3. Press the key specified to enter your BIOS. In
most cases you need to press Del to enter the BIOS setup.
You should see a message on startup, right in the
beginning said:
4. Go into either the Boot section, if you have one,
or the 2nd option (should be something like â?oBIOS
features setupâ? or â?oAdvanced BIOS featuresâ?).
5. Change to boot sequence (should show as â?oboot
sequenceâ? or first boot device; 2nd boot device; 3rd
boot device; etc.) so that CD-ROM is first.
6. Exit saving changes.
7. When you see the message to press any key to boot from CD, press any key.
8. At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press Enter to do a clean install.
9. Press F8 to agree to the license agreement.
10. Press R to run a repair install.
11. Let setup run through. Do not press any key to
boot from CD when the machine restarts.
