what else?--sasser

I recently returned from vacation to find this new worm, sasser, apparently threatening Windows PCs worldwide. Unsure whether my own was infected, I checked the Windows update site, which stated, several times, that my computer was not infected. I ran AVG, AdAware, Spybot S&D, and Stinger to check my computer daily. I started getting spontaneous restarts; knowing that this was one of the symptoms, I printed and meticulously followed Windows XP Users: What to do if your computer etc., incl. steps 7 & 8, install update, and check for and remove sasser. Again, no apparent infection

Today: Photoshop work and listening to internet radio: spontaneous restarts! Three in the last hour! I've given up on the radio--just Photoshopping--same result. Obviously there is an infection. Occam's razor suggests sasser as a culprit. Having done all I illiterately know how to do, I beseech any knowledgeable respondents to email and enlighten me. Please, I need to work.

spontaneous restarts?
Is there an error message?
If there is no error message, Sasser is not likely the cause.

Restarts can be caused by any number of things, excess heat is a big
cause.
Specific details on exactly what happens just before the restart can
be helpful.

Make sure you have followed these 4 steps to help verify your computer
is secure:
