Sasser worm - major problems

My pc, which runs Windows XP, has been hit by the sasser worm. I've tried
everything that the Dell tech people have told me to do but nothing seems to
work. When I turn my computer on, I get the message "Press any key to boot
from CD." If I don't do anything, the Windows XP screen comes up and it
looks as if it is booting. However, it then moves to another screen saying
"System is being restarted......." and then it moves on to an error message
about lsass.exe - system error object name not found. I've tried going to
Safe Mode but it won't let me get there. There is no Start button, and
therefore I can't employ fixes that utilize that approach. I've rebooted
from the CD and still get stuck in the same loop. There are 2 main issues: I
need to recover data and I need to get this worm shut down. I'd really
appreciate any help anyone can give me. I've read the posts in this section
and nothing seems to exactly fit my situation.

I appreciate the suggestions & apologize for taking so long in replying to
Carey Frisch's post. I had been on the suggested sites after reading other
posts. But I am still stuck. I cannot get to the run command. Although I
can reboot from my CD, when trying to put in the suggested commands to copy
the system and the software, I get the message "The system cannot find the
file or directory specified." Is there any way to remove the sasser worm by
commands that will work? Do I have to remove the worm before reinstalling
Windows XP (If I can find a way to do it)? I've gotten very mixed messages
about this. I'm told to run the software from McAfee, but I can't get on the
internet to run it because I can't get through the reboot loop created by the
worm. I'm stuck.
