XP startup and shut down dialogues

S

Stuart Roberts

Hi

I just reinstalled Win XP but now when I boot up I get the password prompt.
I leave the password blank but it always asks. Then, when I shut down I get
a dialogue i've never seen before asking me to choose from a drop down list
of shut down, standby, etc.

Previously I only slected shut down on the start bar then there were three
options as buttons, not a list.

I do i get rid of what I have?

Thanks

Stu

Hi Stu,

For the logon:

Start/run "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes).

Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok and follow
the prompts to set up a default logon.

For the logoff:

Start/Control Panel/Users, "change the way....", you need to reenable the
welcome screen.

Thanks very much. Worked a treat!
Now I just need to sort out my download.trojan thing! Any hints there?
