Upgrading 98SE to XP went so well I'm going to upgrade ME, too, so I ordered
XP Home directly from Microsoft.
XP Home at epp.microsoft.com (requires codes to get in) is called "standard"
instead of the usual "upgrade" or "full" version. Which version will it be?
It will get here in a few weeks and I will find out for sure, but meantime I
hope somebody can clear up the discrepancy.

Both upgrade and full versions can be used to upgrade from ME to XP, so from
that standpoint it doesn't really matter which it is.

Based on the product code on the epp site for this (N09-00984) this is the
full version, meaning you can either use it to upgrade a previous version of
Windows, or you can install it on a PC that currently has no operating
system on it.

WOW!!! Thank you very much!

On the other hand, if you ordered a Full version when all you needed was an
Upgrade, you undoubtedly spent considerably more money than necessary. You
might want to see if you can change it.

That's all that's available through epp, or at least when I logon it's the
only version I see.

An upgrade would have been okay, but I don't have a Windows 98 or ME CD so
this would allow me to install fresh. It's bargain for an upgrade and even
more so for full version.

You can buy a used copy of Windows98 very cheaply at places like eBay.
Usually the combination of an XP Upgrade CD and a used copy of 98 is still
substantially less than a Full copy of XP.

Not with EPP prices, the full version through that program is cheaper than
the retail prices of the upgrade by a decent amount.

OK, thanks. I had missed the significance of the EPP.
