I had Windows XP sp 2 downloaded IE 7. It didn't work with my browser at the
time I did it, so I uninstalled it, fixed most of the problems that it caused
since it did not interact with my browser. (Although now I can't even run my
curser over a Newspaper headline without getting browser errors and my system
locking up, can't run spellcheck on an email without getting the same error,
can't open any open any links that interact with other programs such as
excell, adobe, powerpoint, etc., so that is really frustrating ) . Had noe of
these problems before downloading IE 7. So I have been fighting this for a
couple of weeks and my IP can't help because it is not an issue with my
browser. They said all of the updates for IE 7 have worked out all the bugs
so it should be fine now. Tried to download it last night and I get an
message that tells me I need a newer version of WINDOWS???????? Tried to
reinstall my XP that came with my PC and it said I had a newer version so
couldn't use the disk??????????????????????? Windows Update will not validate
my Windows XP that it has validated in the past saying that it is not an
original??????????????????????????? and I need to by the original??????????
What's up with that ????????????????

Being Canadian I am not Familiar with ATT Yahoo but Google tells me it is an
Internet Service Provider......not an Internet Browser which is what IE7
is.One uses a Browser to connect to different websites. One uses an ISP to
provide the pipeline that IE7 uses to connect to the net.
If you have deleted IE7 XP should have gone back to IE6....which is what XP
came with.
What are you using now to browse the Web??Click Help/About and it will tell
you what version of IE you are using
Like I said you might have deleted ceratin files that you should not have
deleted....there really is no way of knowing what you actually deleted.
Read this article and see if SFC will help...it should return all system
files to normal and replace those that you might have deleted

Thanks, I'll set a restore and try your suggestions, but not only is att
yahoo a isp but they have their own browser. check out att.com

ATT-Yahoo use a customized version of Microsoft Internet Explorer as their browser. It is the same IE that is installed on all Windows systems. The difference is that they customize the browser with the Yahoo toolbars, custom colors, titlebar, Content, Home Page, etc. You can see this by going to Help/About in the toolbar of the browser.

When you upgraded to IE7, you lost all of the proprietary content and customizations of the ATT-Yahoo version of Internet Explorer.

Did you use Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs applet?

The reason that you received all of the errors when you tried to reinstall XP is because your system probably came with an older version of XP (prior to SP2) and you had already updated to XP SP2. You cannot use the original installation disk to reinstall the older version.

First, try to restore the system using the System Restore program. Go to the following website for a good description of how to use System Restore.
