Little Neddie

I'm running XP Home on a 56k dial-up, with AVG 6.0 antivirus, ZoneAlarm 5.1,
AdAware SE, Spybot S&D 1.3 and CW Shredder 1.59, all of which are up to
date.

I have no problems with malware (fingers crossed), I'm not networked with
anyone and I don't do games or videos. Apart from a little music
composition, some photo editing, and keeping my website sorted, my ancient
PC is used only for e-mail and research.

Will SP2 improve my life, or should I leave well enough alone?

TIA

From what I've seen so far (since downloading SP2) it
seems to be aimed for broadband users. It has included a
generic firewall application, some fixes to Internet
Explorer and I'm sure some fixes for stability. Since
you're on a modem (no broadband) you are probably okay
with what you have. I'm a strong beleiver that "if it
ain't broke, don't fix it" If you ever upgrade to dsl
or cable internet access that I would highly recommend you
download the update.

With all the security features and popup blockers,it
would be best to get it,I would even if I didn't have an
allways on connection.

You dont' have to download service pack 2 in one go. Auto update will
download the update and, should the connection get interrupted, i.e., your
isp cuts you off or you close down your connection yourself, the download
will continue the next time you log onto the internet. Regardless of whether
you use auto update or you download directly from the windows update site
(this option is currently not yet available, but will be later) the service
pack will continue to download in the background until it has been fully
downloaded. As soon as the download is complete then it will request that
the service pack be installed. The way sp2 downloads has been specifically
catered for people with dial up connections.

All replies noted. I'll install SP2, but not until I can get it from a
CD-ROM - or at least until the Resume Download facility is up and running..

Thanks everyone.
