i have several dell computers at work that arrived with xp pro sp2
preinstalled.
can't install any programs unless sp2 is removed.
each time i receive a message that installer could not be accessed because
windows is either running in safe mode or installer is not configured
properly.
i changed installer to start automatically, i have started it maually.
nothng seems to work until sp2 is removed and when it is removed overall
computer performace degrades.
any pointers?

You'll have to supply significantly more details then you have.
If SP2 was preinstalled on a new Dell computer, it cannot be
uninstalled. If you are attempting to remove SP2, you are, in effect,
creating problems that may be the source of your issues.

If SP-2 came installed from Dell, it can not be uninstalled.
Contact the program manufacturers for SP-2 compatibility.
