If you have a genuine Product Key for the same version
of Windows XP as the non-genuine version. For example, if
you have a non-genuine version of Windows XP Professional
installed, and have a "genuine" Product Key for Windows XP
Professional, you can use the Windows Product Key Update
Tool to change the Product Key.
The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for
users attempting to change their current non-genuine Product Key
to a genuine Product Key - all without a reinstall!

However, if you have a "genuine" Product Key for Windows XP
Home Edition, and you have a non-genuine Windows XP Professional
installation, the Tool will not work....a "clean install" of XP Home
would be required.

| I seem to have installed a bad copy of XP Pro SP2. I have a real XP Pro SP1
| disk and Key (It may have been easier to install the SP2 than SP1 and all the
| security upgrades). How do I put the genuine SP1 key in and make it work?
