XP SP2 Shutdown problem

Guest

I have XP Pro. I have loaded SP2.
When I try to Shut Down the machine, it takes loooooong time to show the
RESTART / SHUTDOWN / LOG OFF options and then again a looooog time to
actually shutdown.

Also, the wallpaper goes black and white instead of color when these options
appear - Is this the correct way of working?

If I try to shutdown through the Ctrl+Alt+Del way, the shutdown link shuts
down the machine much faster.

Please help!

It's normal for the screen to turn black and white when you click
shutdown from the start menu. Is your computer on a domain? Need some
more information to help you.

As I understand it, once you click shutdown, you wait for the options
dialog.
What anti-virus product do you use? I'd be interested in whether temporarily
disabling it speeds up this process.

If so, try to find in your anti-virus product where you can create an
exception (not scanned).
You would want to create an exception for C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

Click the start button, click on Run, type in "msconfig" without the
quotes and hit enter.

A window opens, System Configuration Utility, click the Startup tab and
tell us what is listed in there. You maky have some rouge apps running.

Also, I had tried to load XP OS on my D drive as well. This installation I
had left incomplete. XP is working from my C drive. Will this create any
problems?

Download this and run it. It will search and delete any spyware on your
computer.

Do you use Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer for web browsing?

Answer: All these files running at startup are legit.

Does your computer boot right into Windows, or do you have to seleect a
OS at boot up?
