XP SP2 security center

The security center recognises my Norton AV 2004 but not Norton Firewall
2003, this is not a problem but the security center will not remember that I
have told it that I will monitor the firewall myself. Every time I boot up
the red shield comes on the task bar and I have to click the box to say I
will monitor it myself.

It is frustrating me that the SC isn't saving the settings, does any one
have any ideas how I can cure this insignificant but annoying problem?

Thanks

Open your Control Panel, then double-click the Security Center icon.
In the left side, click on the link titled: "Change the way Security Center
alerts me". Next, uncheck the Firewall Alert Setting, then click OK.

Hi

Have you tried this one:

Control Panel/Security Center, click on the "Change the Way
Security Center Notifies Me" link in the left pane.

If the "Change the Way Security Center Notifies Me" doesn't stick
when you reboot, or you want to disable the Security Center totally,
you can do the following:

Start/Run --> services.msc

Find "Security Center" in the list, double click on it, set
"Startup type" to Disabled.

Sorry I should have said that I don't particularly want to turn the Security
Center off if I can help it.

Hi

As far as I can see, it is a bug in SP2, heaps of people have this
issue, and no one have come up with a explanation of it.

howiezows have another way to "fix" this, locking down the permissions
on the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center in
registry.

Take a look here if you still want the Security Center enabled,
and with a setting that survives a reboot:
http://groups.google.com/[email protected]

I'm a bit reluctant to point to this solution to everybody that have
this problem, because locking down permissions on system files and
system registry keys very often comes back to bite you later on in
upgrade situations (and then you have long gone forgot that you did
this change or you fail to see the connection).
