XP SP2 Reverting User Profile to Older Version

Has anyone else encountered this problem:

After installing XP SP2 on Windows XP Pro, the user profile seems revert to
an older version. Desktop settings, Outlook Configuration settings have
changed to how they was a couple of months ago. Files also seem to have been
affected with documants I have worked on recently reverting back to old
versions. I thought this was an isolated experience, but this has occured on
4 of our customers PCs and now my own.

If you have sufferd from this, have you found out why, is there a fix way of
preventing this?

The only way I can think of for such reversion of document content is
for some third party backup system to have got involved. Norton Ghost
or the like
