XP SP2 Power Schemes - Nothing Activates

D

David Lipetz

I have a new Dell Latitude D630 running Windows XP SP2. After getting all my
applications installed and ruinning the Files & Settings Transfer Wizard, I
find that none of the settings selected in Power Schemes actually work.

Doesn't matter whether it's on battery or AC power, the laptop does not
activate any of the power saving measures (monitor off, hard drive off,
system standby) after the alloted time has passed. I've searched extensively
and the only things I have found relate to missing Power Schemes, not Power
Schemes that do not work.

At this point, I don't think I can roll back to an old Restore Point as I
have no idea when this stopped working.

Aside from reloading XP, does anyone have other suggestions?

See if anything here helps:

Although for a different brand of laptop, many of the procedures here may apply to
your Dell also:

Also, have a look here at some of MVP Sharon Fink's suggestions:

Does the system go into Standby if you click Start> Shutdown> Standby?

Try creating your own power scheme in Power Options control panel and save it with a
new name rather than one that is already there, then set the system to use that
power scheme. Does that work?

Check you Power Management setting in the BIOS setup.

Since you state it is a new Dell, have you contacted Dell Support about the issue?
