Gidday,
Word on the net suggests HP's Compaq Presario doesn't like xp
sp2. My unit is heading into its 3rd year from new. It is current with all
the critical updates up to but not including whats on the xp sp2 disk. Same
goes for my virus protection (McAfee) and my Spware Eliminator prtection.
Will update from the HP site shortly. A HP tech support person on the phone
said do not install xp sp2 on my machine. The HP site does not mirror that
statement. Would be greatefull if anyone has a comment or advice in relation
to the instalation of the xp sp2 disk on a Compac Presario machine.
regards from Down Under.

I have a Compaq Presario 6301 I bought early last year, 1.8GHz celeron
processor, 40 GB hard drive, 384MB ram, installed SP2 back in August, no
problems at all. Just make sure you are virus and spyware free, those seem
to be the main causes for SP2 to cause problems.

Mr Fisher Reply to Albert Sims-
Thankyou Albert. Appreciate your reply. My system is a Compaq Presario
5700 Pentium 4, 2.0GHz, 256mb Ram, 80GB Hard Drive system bought new in
August 2001 with XP Home Edition. According to the HP Compaq site all I have
left to do is apply a fix to install the back-up facility into my version of
XP home edition before installing xpsp2. My virus and spware protection says
I'm clear. Many Thanks Albert.
Mr Fisher.
