When listening to MP3 files, switching to full screen mode causes system reset and restart. Is this normal?

No. Consider installing WMP10. Also check for an updating video driver,
from the chip or card manufacturer's WEBsite. If you are unfamiliar with
this process, it's best to enlist help from someone who is.
 
No. You could try updating to Media Player 10 via Windows Update (or
manually update as well).

I trust you routinely scan for adware, spyware, etc. and have an updated
virus scanning tool and updated firewall.
