XP SP2 installation error

Dear Sir: I am running Windows XP Home Edition on a Compaq desktop. I have
tried several times to install Service Pack 2. Each time the installation
runs for about an hour and then a window appears in the middle of the screen
which says “Service Pack 2 Setup...â€, under this is a red circle with a white
X in it, and to the right is says “ Access is denied . “ I then press OK and
another window appears which says “Service Pack 2 Setup Errorâ€, below that
is the red ball X again and to its right : “ Service pack 2 installation did
not complete.†“Select OK to undo the changes which have been mad.â€. I
press OK and another window says “Service Pack 2 removal Wizard.†The arrow
is pointing to “Restoring Catalogs.†After another hour or so I am back at
square one with Service Pack 2 not installed. Thank you for any suggestions
you might have. JJM

Are you downloading SP2 or installing from a CD?
