XP SP2 Deployment with Win2k3 AD help

Hello,

I'm trying to use Win2k3 AD to deploy XP SP2 to a client of mine.. They
have multiple sites..and each site has a copy of XP SP2 on the network for
installation... I have the workstations (Win2k/WinXP mix) placed into OU's
(manually) based on their geographic location. I now want to create a GPO
to install SP2 to machines running XP, or XP SP1.

I need to remove the "human" factor, and was hoping I could create a query
based DL, or WMI filter to apply the GPO.. But I cannot seem to get this
figured out.

Anyone else doing something like this to deploy SP2?

Thanks in advance!

Troy,

I would not suggest that you use a Site-based GPO. I might suggest that you
have the 'i386' folder on a DC - or File Server - in each Site and then
create a GPO that uses Security Group filtering....and point the GPO to the
DC or File Server in the local Site. Does this make sense to you?

I am not sure that I understand what you mean by 'human factor' - this is
Group Policy. there is not very much 'human factor' - unless you mean that
you do not want to have to create the security group ( for group
filtering ) - this would be 'human factor'.

Cary,

Basically, I want to use a GPO to perform the installation of XP SP2. We
have Win2k, WinXP, and WinXPSP1 workstations in each remote site. I'm
looking for the best way to configure a targeted installation to only the
XP, and XP SP1 workstations within each unique site.

Ugh, last thing I wanted to do is set that product up right at this
particular time... But thanks.
