Anyone know how to fix this problem.
I just formatted and installed XP with SP2 but i cant get mt CD-Rom to work
from within XP
When i put a CD it the mouse locks up and the CD-Rom just keeps spinning and
it all gows back to normal
once i take the CD out.
I have tryed a load of CD's but its the same on all.

Hi S3, Got the same problem. Couple of weeks ago, we downloaded the XP
service pack 2 and the autoplay stopped working. Can still access cd/dvd's
via "My computer" but want my Autoplay back. Have sent off a query to
Microsoft to ask if there have been any other reports come in about this
problem. It would be interesting to ask all who are experiencing this problem
if it occurred after installing XP service pack 2

Hi james,I have the exact same problem. I know its due to SP 2 because I
uninstalled it and hey presto, back to normal. I have just put back in SP 2
and no autoplay. Did you have a response from Microsoft ?, as I also want my
autoplay back.

Some MSoft staff wrote an unofficial tool for fixing Autoplay problems;
it is not on the MSoft site, but can be found at

Thanks Alex, but unfortunately the problem was not solved. The message I got
after running the fix was that the wizard detected a problem but was unable
to fix it.

James, I also have a simular problem, mine started when Service Pack 2 did
not completely install and I was instructed to uninstall Service Pack 2.
After that my CD ROM locks up just like your's but only with an audio cd, a
data cd works fine. Also just tried the fix you had mentioned and it did not
fix the problem
