XP and SP2 CD-Rom problem

Anyone know how to fix this problem.
I just formatted and installed XP with SP2 but i cant get mt CD-Rom to work
from within XP
When i put a CD it the mouse locks up and the CD-Rom just keeps spinning and
it all gows back to normal
once i take the CD out.
I have tryed a load of CD's but its the same on all.
 
Has the CD ROM got the correct driver installed. What does Device Manager
show for the CD?
