XP SP2 And JVM

P

Prabhat

Hi All,

I have XP with SP2 Installed in my PC (XP with SP2 Slipstreamed). I Dont
Have JVM Installed.

I have Checked that using "C:\> jview" Command.

I wanted to Download the Microsoft Version of the JVM (Build 3810). So I
found Below Link and Downloded the MS Versrion of JVM.
But While Installing that EXE Says It will Only Upgrade the Older JVM.

http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA012735/vm_en.html

SO Where Can I find the MS Version of JVM. Or I have to Opt for Java VM?

Please Suggest.

Thanks
Prabhat

Prabhat,

MS JVM was removed from Windows SP1a itself (so in SP2 as well). You can
find the older version of MS Java VM in MVP Sandi's site:
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/msjavx86.exe (build 3805, IIRC).

Then update to the latest version 3810 via WindowsUpdates or via HP site (if
download is available).

Hi Ramesh,

I have Downloded the file. But There are no Single File with Latest Version
on NET. So that I do not have to Install this 3805 Build and then Update to
3810 Build.

Thanks

I had the same problem in that I could not install JVM Build 3810. I went to
http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html
and dowloaded it but when I installed it I got the same message that it
would only upgrade the prior version. Needless to say, I do not have a prior
version. Does anybody have any other ideas?

I have some software that will not run with Java and I am in a bind.

Thank you in advance.

Why don't you just download and install msjavx86 and then upgrade it with
your 3810 version. If the link below isn't working, google it.

I guess I was not clear. I downloaded msjavx86.exe (which is the 3805
Build). When I tried to install it, it said that it would only install over
a prior version. Since I have no prior version, it could not install. I am
now downloading msjavwu.exe which apparently is build 3809. Maybe I will be
more successful with this.

The 3805 or 09 version should work either way with the 10 (which is simply a
security update for the previous version, and not a standalone installer for
MSJVM).

MSEither way, I'm trying to run PS SAS Online Documentation for Version 8 and
it is not working. The SAS folks have lead me to believe that it is because
the OnlineDoc does not work with Sun's JAVA. Remarkably, my machine (i'm
running XP tells me that I am running MSJVM but it still won't work. Also
3809 installed but 3805 did not because 3805 said it needed to install over a
prior version. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You'll have to contact, or refer to that software makers people, or
reference file for usage with XP. From what I read regarding version 8, that
was released for use with the older MS OSes
Here is an excerpt from the usage documentation:

"The SAS System: Exploiting the Power of Microsoft Windows
Windows is an operating environment developed by Microsoft Corporation to
allow more control over the capabilities of your personal computer. It
provides a flexible, easy-to-use working environment for which there are
thousands of software applications. Version 8 of the SAS System under
Windows is a complete implementation of the SAS System. The following
Windows environments support Version 8:
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (Build 1981, Service Pack 4)
Microsoft Windows 95 (Build 950 or greater)
Microsoft Windows 98 (Build 1998)
Note: Except where noted, the examples and instructions provided in this
book assume that you are running the SAS System under Windows 95 or Windows
NT 4.0. For more information about how to use the Windows interface, see the
documentation for the Windows environment that you use."

SAS says that all problems will be resolved with the Version 9 documentation.
In the meantime, the 3809 build is apparently for NT because when I go to
the JAVA site and test it, it responds that I am running an NT version.
Remarkably, I can now get the Version 8 page to load, but it finds nothing in
the query. I wonder if there is a slight difference in the NT version
(3809?) and the 3805 version of MJVM that keeps it from working.

Do you know of any way to uninstall MJVM? If I do that maybe I'll start
over and download build 3805 and see if it will install, or whether it will
say again that it can only install over a prior version.

Thanks
