XP SP-2 Won't Shutdown

Guest

I've looked at the other posts, including the website
http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php, and it doesn't seem to match my
problem...

I go to Shut Down... Shut Down...

And nuthin'.

Sometimes it will give me the "ccApp won't shut down... ENd Now?" option.

But it just hangs, it doesn't shut down running programs, etc. etc....

So I have to power off to reboot. That can't be good!

Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks

I would suggest running a disk cleanup, checkdisk, and defrag:

Afterward, install the following:

ccApp is a Norton file. Uninstall/reinstall the program, check with
Norton tech support or do some clean boot troubleshooting to see if some
other programs is also contributing to the problem.

Thanks. I will try all this tonight or tomorrow night.

I seem to remember, back in the days of 95 or 98, at least, that my Windows
defrag spun and spun and spun and kept restarting (I don't know if that's the
term Windows used?). Whatever it did, the defrag never seemed to gain
traction.

So, do I need to run Analyze and Defrag in Safe Mode? Or what?

I have used Norton's defrag in the past on this machine, but it seems like
I should use the native MS version for this.

Thanks,

(And I knew ccApp was part of Norton; since it didn't seem to go in lockstep
with my shutdown problems, I never bothered reinstalling it. Norton always
seems to be one of those programs where the reinstall has unintended effects
- I think because of the subscription-based nature of it?)

Anyway, thanks, and I will be back if this doesn't do the trick!

One other q for Carey on the UPH Cleanup...

I am not running these machines in a network, and my User Profile is the one
loaded about 95-98 percent of the time. Should I still install?

Thanks
