Computer is a clean install of XP on a newly formatted hard drive. Everything
up to date including drivers. When I install SP-2 I loose all my printers and
all sound.

The device manager doesn't show any driver problems.

Trying to re-install printers using the install printer wizard I get a
message that the print spoller service is not running. If I go and manually
turn on the service thr printers are still missing, but then I can run the
install printer wizard. It finds that the drivers are already installed, but
once the printers are still missing from my printer list. (If I uninstall SP2
then they are all there as is the new one).

As for sound, It just doesn't work... all I get is the motherboard beep.
Again the driver seems to be installed OK for my SB512 card.

I've tried this twice now, deleting the oringinal SP2 download files
inbetween so I get a clean download and get the same results.

Thanks

Try uninstalling the printers before applying SP2 and then reinstalling
them afterwards.

It's not a scenario we've come across before..... what make and model are
the printer(s)?

What make and model is the soundcard ...or onboard soundchip?

OK Cari...
So I first rolled back the machine to a Restore point before attempting the
SP-2 install.
Then I de-installed the Printers and physically removed the SB PCI 128
sound card (leaving on board "Sound MAx integrated sound on the Intel D845GBV
motherboard).
Then I re-installed the SP-2 and was able to run the "Add Printer Wizard"
with success.
Then I re-installed the physical SoundBlaster PCI card... the drivers
installed and I immediately LOST the ******* Printers!......
Finally I removed the drivers for the SoundBlaster PCI card, restarted
the machine and re-installed the drivers for the sound card.. it works!...
Who knows why, but I'm not going to argue.. I'll just set my sustem restore
point and quit fussing with success (by luck only)!
Go figure.. gotta love Windows (sorry Bill G. ).
