XP SP 2 Access to Internet stopped

Ian

I have fitted a new hard disk to my laptop after the original stopped
working. I loaded on my Windows XP Professional software with no problem
along with other software including my broadband disk.

Every thing worked ok, access to the internet worked until I downloaded XP
SP 2 and installed it. After installing it I tried to go on the internet but
could not tried disabling windows firewall but still no joy. So only way I
can access intrnet is by uninstalling SP 2.

It worked ok with SP 2 before I had to change the hard disk so what has
changed or do to get it to work with SP 2 installed?

laptops have specialty
software to run hardware.

it is likely that you need
to download updated
drivers from your laptops
homesite.

also, while your on the
homesite, checkout the
faq's too.

Usally if the laptop was working with XP prior to SP2, the drivers
seem to have been correctly installed.

You need to note that during the SP2 install, it is usually
recommended to disconnect from the Internet and deactivate any / all
anti-virus software (some may need to be uninstalled.) SP2 modifies
a lot of Windows files / settings / registry settings that anti-virus
system may treat as a threat and refuse / block the changes.
