XP Service Pack

For the first time I downloaded and installed a Windows
Update. It happened to be the XP Service Pack.

That was less than 24 hours ago. So far the results have
been: (a) My Acrobat5.0 refused to open, and I had to
reinstall it; (b) my Outlook Express started removing
every attachment I received, giving me the message that
it had removed an "unsafe attachment," which is clearly
fallacious.

I am unaware of any benefit I have received as a result
of the installation of the Service Pack. At the moment,
I am just waiting to discover what other problems it has
caused.

Can someone tell me how to keep my OE attachments. I
have my security settings on Medium.

Thank you.

Hi

This is fixed with some simple menu choices :-)

Acrobat is now up to version 6 which works great with xp sp1. You should be
using version 6.
After xp sp1 there is a new security setting in outlook express that gets
turned on. All you have to do is turn it off. In oe: tools, options,
security tab, uncheck: do not allow attachemnts.........
So now that you know that these are not problems. Also you are unaware of
any benefit from sp1 cause of just that, you are unaware. Their are
many(hundreds) of important updates, security patches, fixes, and tweaks
that sp1 provides. 99% of this is done behind the scenes.
If this is the first time you did an update that is not a secure way to
compute. You should be going to and installing all windows update critical
patches on a weekly basis.

With SP1 comes the new "set programs access and defaults"
option in your add\remove programs. Look on the left. MS
should have told everyone but didn't. Have fun.

Thank you.

Thanks. Your fix on OE worked perfectly, and thanks for
the advice re the updates. I was glad to hear it, and
will, henceforth, update regularly. I thought I had made
a big mistake by updating.

You're welcome.
