I am running windows xp professional on a Mac using boot camp. I installed
windows and when I go to install service pack 2, I get an error message:
"There is not enough space on C:\windows\$NtServicePack Uninstall$ to
install service pack 2...." and it wants another 4mb. There are 28GB of free
disk space.

Suggestions to solve this problem?

thanks.

If you have a couple of blank CD-Rs and the means, do this: Go and
grab the full SP3 download, NLite 1.4.9.1, and create yourself a
slipstreamed CD that has SP3 already integrated. That should install
just fine. I'm also not 100% sure on this one but I *think* there was
an update to Bootcamp that one of the OS point release fixed that was
specific to this error you're seeing. What version of OS X is this?

I don't have a choice. My boss buys the computers and is a 'born again' Mac
user. That cause is hopeless, but at least he lets me work in windows where
Excel (1) isn't a dog and (2) uses macros.

My experience with a Mac is that if (1) you do everything with a mouse and
use NO keyboard shortcuts and (2) your excel needs don't extend beyond SUM,
MIN, MAX etc. you'll be happy with it. It's a stable platform and has a
really nice monitor.

Unknown true solution because of the "virtual" install of XP, while
using a Mac.

Problems installing Windows updates and Service packs are cause by:

-- Missing Temporary File "folders"

-- Environment settings]

-- Temp. folder filled with junk files.

Install the most recent version of Boot Camp then try again.

PS: If SP1 is installed, you can skip straight to SP3.

Most of SP2 concerns network protection or improvements
to the OS. But you use a Mac OS: so if Excel runs as you
want why not defer the SP2 upgrade until you have some
functional need foor it?

I cannot load the boot camp drivers required to access the network and other
niceties. One of the Mac side suggestions was to load SP2 and then I could
load the boot camp drivers.

I'm just trying every combination, trying to get back to square one.......

I tried a search, and can find something similar here. At least the
symptoms are the same.
