XP Self rebooting HELP!!

Tim

HI

I have XP, recently installed SP1a, AMD1900+ CPU and loads
of memory. My machine is dual boot and has another Hard
drifve with 98 that I use for old apps and a new one with
XP for everything else.

Was using my PC the other day- all was fine other than IE
running as slow as always. Media player was doing its self
update bit, updating the media library. I mention this as
it is the only 'recent install' on my machine.

Next day, switch on. get to my boot menu, selected XP.
Saw the XP logo and load status bar. When this blanked, as
it would before giving the user selection menu, I very
quickly saw a blue screen (of death!!!) then the machine
restarted itself.
Bugger
Switched on again, got the 'safe mode / last know good
config' menu. Tried safe mode, did the same again, blue
screend (too quick to read) and restarted.
Tried last know good config - same problem.
My machine boots into 98 fine, and the HW diagnosics in 98
show no errors on any of my hardware. Anyone know whats
going on?
Whats annoying is that I cannot get my product ID off
XP....as I cannot get into it.
Help greatly appreciated, this is most annoying,
especially if its becuase of a download I had no control
over.

Your Windows XP Product Key should have been on the folder containing
the XP CDROM (retail version) or on a sticker fastened to the side or
bottom of the computer case (OEM version).

Without being able to boot into XP there is no way of determining the
product key that I am aware of, and you need to have the product key
ahead of time if you are going to do a Repair Install of Windows XP,
which is what is apperently needed in this case.

Good luck
