I'm running XP Pro, sp1 on a Gateway P4, 2.6GHz, 1.25gb RAM.

I've set my Views selection to details, in all but one (1) place (Control
Panel). But *most* of the time, XP can't seem to remember this. Most of the
time, when I go to Control Panel, I find myself changing the view *back to*
Details. (And I haven't touched *anything* since the last time I set Control
Panel back to "Details".) I run W2k Pro at home, and I don't recall ever having
this problem.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

It could be a windows file that has been encrypted!

Check for encryption software and Windows Encryted Files!

In Control Panel I want "Large Icons". Everywhere else I want "Details". XP
can't remember. After I set what I want, XP will...at some point...change it to
what XP wants!

Windows "remembers" the folder views but has a limitation on how many it can
remember, once that limit is reached it won't remember any more. There is a
reg tweak to increase the number of folder views that window will remember
from the default (something like 800) to whatever number you like. I think
TweakUI can change that value also.

In some other folder, set up the window just as you want as general
default (also including such points as tool and status bars, size and
position) then in its Tools - Folder Options - View, make sure that
'remember each folder's view settings' is checked, and click Apply to
all.

You can then open any other that you would like in specialist view, set
it up and close (ideally making sure by having CTL down and clicking the
close button).

Note that in original XP the number of individual window settings that
could be saved was limited: Kelly has a fix on her site
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
to increase the number - not needed if you have SP2

Go to Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options. From there you can change the
settings as to whether or not a separate window is displayed for each folder
and then if separate windows are used individual view settings should be
remembered.

The View Setting of the Current Selected Folder Is Not Applied to Another
Open Folder
