Windows XP Display Properties

Within the last several days my access to the display properties for screen
settings and resolution have stopped working. It was working fine before
this began. I can not access them from the start up screen by clicling on
properties or through the control panel DISPLAY icon.

I have checked the regestry, looked at FAQ's, troubleshootong guides,
registry editors, and looked on line with google search. Nothing in any of
these seems to work.

The computer was recently upgrraded with a new ASUS P5N-D motherboard, RAM
and NVIDIA GefORCE 9800 graphics card.

The NVIDIA control panel which got installed with the vodeo card does allow
me to change screen resolution but I can not get to the Windows screen
savers, apearance items or wallpaper. With the reload of XP Pro I had to
reload all my programs and maybe one of those did something. Most of my
programs are standard thiings like Microsoft Office Professional, Corel Paint
Shop Pro, Itunes & Quick Time and a HP Scanjet 4070 Photosmart Scanner -
which was very difficult to install.

Any suggestions to on how to get the windows displat tabs working again
short of reloading Windows XP would be apreciated.

I tried these restore repairs and nothing has changed. Still nothing when I
clock on the control panel display or when I clicl on properties from the
opening screen. I also ran the latest driver from NVIDIA and it indicates
that I do have the latest drivers.

Please bear in mind that some anti-virus real-time scanners, and other
anti-malware programs can interfere with device driver installs, and can
prevent wanted registry modifications !
Providing that you've pre-downloaded your dvice drivers from reputable /
original manufacturers web-sites - disconenct from the internet and
uninstall / reboot / reinstall graphics driver. ...don't go for the latest
beta version either !

....did you re-register dlls' :-

.....have you been using a third party desktop app. - such as Nvidia's - if
so, an dif iyou don't really need it, switch it off.

lots to try really ...

....or if you feel like taking a gamble you could run this *.vbs script !!!

Try my Desktop Reset tool. Download it here

You've exposed yourself as the PIRATE/THIEF we all have said you are.

The file you claim to have known about, claim to have submitted to anti-
virus sites, the file named "obatssrsghde.exe" was a marker inserted
into Stuarts batch file you stole from him, it was is a KEY that proves
you're a thief:

For those that don't know, Stuart inserted the obatssrsghde.exe marker
into his batch file to prove, to the community, that PCBUTTS1 / The Real
Truth MVP is actually a lying thief, and PCBUTTS admitted in his own
post that he created the marker and claimed to know what it was - even
claimed to have submitted the malware to anti-virus vendors, but the
joke was on him, Stuart told everyone in the community about it BEFORE
it appeared in PCBUTTS1 download.... There is no actual file named
obatssrsghde.exe in the malware community, it was a ruse.

The key is in the spelling:

obatssrsghde.exe
pcbuttsthief

If you change (add) 1 character to each letter you will see that
"obatssrsghde" is actually the marker "pcbuttsthief" - proving that
PCBUTTS1 is a thief.

Are there other markers - YES, does PCBUTTS1 know about them - know,
they've been there for a long time, but this is the most obvious one.

Face it Chris/PCBUTTS1/TRT, you've exposed yourself in public.

Thanks for all the advise. I have tried all of these that apply and there is
no change. When I try to open Display through any means - absolutely nothing
happens, no tabs at all. I am not sure what the next step might be. Either
NVIDIA has taken control of the display properties (because that is the only
thing that actually seems to do anything) or somehow the dll or other
software that make up the Windows display must have been deleted or
corrupted. I am about to give up and try to move to Vista to see if it will
restore the system.

Thankyou. My brother-in-law helped me and I have now re-installed
Windows XP again, with the FATS disc disconnected.
It worked like a dream, and XP is now on the C drive. I do not know
why, but using the C drive seems to solve a lot of problems, including
the extraordinary font size problem. I have not re-installed the video
driver , as it works well with the default windows driver.
