Windows xp seems to be running excruciatingly slowly, and
it is almost constantly accessing the HDD. Windows Me
seemed to run much faster. I'm suspecting that it's
because I only have 128 MB RAM, but I'd appreciate
anyone's input.

How much RAM you need depends on what apps you run, but for
almost everyone running a common mix of business apps under XP,
128MB is not enough. Most people find that decent performance
begins somewhere around 256MB.

Hi

Yes you could perhaps upgrade your RAM by at least another 128 Mbs. Try
running Defrag and Disk Cleanup - they may help.

well with 128 win xp is really working slow, but to make it as good as
possible check how many programs you have in startup and also you can turn
off some visual effects in System Properties > Advanced > (i think it
performance).
