I performed an in-place upgrade to my XP installation the other day and ran
into serious trouble, despite following the MS knowledgebase article on the
subject to the letter. The installation ground to a halt with "13 minutes
left" on screen, showing the following error message:
"Unregmp2.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link
library MSDART.DLL"
Clicking the OK button did nothing, so I called MS's tech support and they
got me through by bringing up the task manager and End Process'ing it.
Anyway, everything seemed to go smoothly and XP completed its install, but
immediately my USB2.0 seemed to go west. I can connect some devices
(printer, webcam etc) to the various USB ports on the front and back plates,
but only at USB1.0 speeds, and when I try to plug in others, such as my
mouse, 256 Mb memory stick or the mp3 player, nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
That said XP recognises the memory stick on the PCI USB1.0 card, but the
transfers rate is desperately slow.
According to my BIOS, USB2.0 is enabled, but I don't see anything on my XP
device manager which has the words "high-speed USB" or anything similar (see
http://makeashorterlink.com/?I56412199 for a screen grab).
Can anyone suggest what might have gone horribly wrong, and what I might do
to get things moving again?
If it's relevant, the system is a mongrel PC running Windows XP Pro (SP1),
Intel P4 2.8, 1 Gb RAM, two 120 Gb HDDs, Ti4600 graphics. Apart from a
flaky installation of XP which prompted the reinstall, the hardware has been
extremely stable for a long while.
TIA
