XP rebooting with keyboard lockup

My e-machines computer died.

I bought a new MB, P4, case.... but not a new HD.

When I turn the computer on it begins to boot to XP Pro and then it kicks
out to the "were are sorry for the inconvenienece but blah blah blah" it
gives me the 3 options to safe mode, command prompt....." But for soem reason
my keyboard will not work (none of the keys). It will work in the bios but as
soon as it begins to boot to OS no good. I've replaced the IDE cables,
unplugged and replugged in everything with no luck. I'm thinking bad HD (boot
sector?).

Thanks for any ideas you may have,
C

Because the mb is different from the one Windows was configured on, you
will have to perform a Repair Install to allow new drivers to be
installed. Then if Windows boots, you will need the CD that came with
the mb to install specific drivers of that mb.

See here for more instruction:

Terry, thank you. I stupidly left out some info.

I had, in fact, reformated the drive and done a "fresh install" of XP pro.
The system had been working well for the past couple weeks until last Friday.

The e-machines motherbard (T2792) has "fried" due to the supposedly bogus
original power supply. When I was installing a fresh XP Pro the first time
the computer would not recognize the XP pro disk (and the keyboard would lock
up) until I removed the partition on the hard drive and then everything went
smooth as I said for the past couple weeks. I'm now back to the problem.
Sorry about the lack of info originally Terry.

The copy of Windows that came with the e-machine is locked to the
e-machine. Return the replacement computer and have Gateway repair the
e-machine OR purchase a valid license for the replacement computer.

Bob,

My bad again, the XP pro software I installed was not from E-machines. I
purchased it at a retailer.

Thanks

C,

I'm still confused here. You said, "the computer would not recognize
the XP pro disk (and the keyboard would lock up) until I removed the
partition on the hard drive and then everything went smooth as I said
for the past couple weeks." Did you have more than one partition? You
first said you reformatted and had done a fresh install.

I've got to head out for a while but any further info would help,
