XP re-install fails (part 2)

I'm having a similiar problem as a question posted earlier but with a few
differences. During a heated match of online gaming my computer froze.
After having to unplug the box to get it to re-boot it started getting
really unstable. I quickly did a backup to a different H.D. just as the
computer started doing the re-boot thing, over and over, on it's own. Tried a
clean re-install of Win XP from my CD and I keep getting a "can't copy **.***
press enter to try again or ESC to skip file.. with a warning about possible
problems if skipped (duh)
I've tried switching out the HD with a new one..same problem.
I've tried using another Win XP installation disk..same problem.
I never reach a full 100% on the install without random files being unabled
to be copied, causing the computer to keep re-booting and trying to run setup
again. I almost got to 100% last night but it complained about the system
registry doesn't have an active ControlSet key... then re-booted again.
I can imagine that any warnings are directly related to not all the files
being copied during the setup. After multiple formats and attempts to install
I'm stumped.
Could the BIOS be involved in any of this?

Hi DL,
I did manage to get to a dos prompt last night so I ran PC Doctor and it
didn't find anything wrong. I'm familiar with installing Windows with just
the basic periphials hooked up to avoid conflicts but I've never seen
anything like this. I've never messed with or flashed a BIOS so I'm not that
knowledgable about them. That's why I asked about a possible problem there.
What other things you think it might be? I'm down to the problem in the
Motherboard? RAM chips maybe? I'm willing to pull more stuff if need be just
to figure this out.

Thanks

It sounds to me like a hardware problem, something to do with your cd drive.
If your computer has a floppy disk drive, you could try windows xp floppy
disks.
