XP Professional will not come out of standby.

When my wife's new computer was in standby, I killed the power to it at the
power strip. Now I can not get the computer to come out of standby. The PC
seems to boot up but there is no display at the monitor. The DVD and CD ROM
drive doors slide open when I press their hardware buttons. The keyboard
displays no normal lights. I've tried alternate monitors and keyboards with
no differences. I've pulled the AC power cord and left the PC without power
for several minutes and rebooted with the same results. What can I do now?

The keyboard does not respond to F8 or any commands on my attemped boot up.
The lights on the keyboard do not act like it booted up at all. A different
keyboard responded the same.

I would'nt mention you killed the pwr supply - even though this shouldnt
cause any probs

Thanks for the reply. The PC acts like it is going through a normal boot up
when I watch the lights on it. Also the DVD and CD drawers open and close on
command from their respective hardware buttons once PC appears to be booted
up. Just the dual monitors and keyboard are unresponsive. The keyboard power
light is on but Caps Lock and Num Lock lights do not come on when I press
their buttons. Would a bad power supply cause the PC to act normal and the
keyboard and monitors to appear unoperative? Thanks.

You said its a new PC, so contact supplier.
If on the other hand its a new second user PC as soon as you pwr on start
pressing F8 key, repeatedly

I will be taking it to the supplier tomorrow. I tried the F8 key several
times during attempted boot up with the same result. Nothing happens. I'm
thinking it may be a hardware issue of some kind.
Thanks for the reply.

Occasionally I get that same problem, (coming out of standby, monitor and
keyboard won't function)and I have to hit the reset button to restart the
computer. The monitor and keyboard work fine after that, I just hate having
to constantly reboot everytime I come out of standby. I also have my monitor
and comp hooked to a backup power supply, (APC Surge Protector/Battery
Backup).
