XP Professional Installation Problems

I have a HP machine, it had Windows ME. I upgraded the software to XP
Professional. The computer can NOT find my camera to download pictures, or
my my new HP Photosmart 8250 printer. I have un-installed both softwares,
and re-installed with no luck. My computer isn't even recognizing the
disconnect, and reconnect of the USB's. Any suggestions?

No, they were connected the entire time; turned off, but connected. I will
re-try this evening. Could this actually be the entire problem? Everything
else seems to be running properly. Thanks...

The USB circuitry may be powered by the USB connection, even with the device
turned off.
