XP Professional hangs at start up

Right after the POST the computer says it is now booting from operating
system, The Windows XP logo with the blue bar thermometer beneath it comes on
acting as though it is starting XP. Then the screen goes black, XP never
starts. I have booted from the install disc and gone through the repair
process without any luck. Tried booting from a floppy but no help either.
Anyone, please help.

And what about safe mode ?

If it boots in safe mode its usually a software issue.
