XP Pro Wont Surf

Hello.

Problem. XP Pro SP1 with all patches. I can login to the net through a
dialup account and establish the connection fine. After the connection is
active I can open a command prompt and ping IP's and ping web sites [eg
google.ca pings fine and does an IP like 66.38.140.42].

However, when I open a browser it won't surf. Keeps telling me page can't
be found or Internet Search Page can't be opened. I have gone into Internet
properties and check the setting and they are ok, I have even changed them,
rebooted and changed them back and still the same problem.

It's like internet explorer won't see the connection even thought it's there
and DNS resloution works as does pinging the IP direct. Any ideas on what
is causing this and how to reslove it?

Cheers
Mark

Mark I had a similar problem. The solution for me was to
delete temp internet files and cookies. I hope this
works for you.

Open IE, tools, internet options, advanced tab, choose "DO
NOT SEARCH FROM ADDRESS BAR"

Check Connections tab as well to make sure you have the
proper settings for your default connection

Hello. Both suggestion have not worked. I can ping anything fine. When I
start IE 6.0 SP1 it right away goes to the "Page cannot be displayed"
screen. It seems like it quickly start to load the page then flashes to the
page not displayed.

Any other thoughts?

I've tried evrything too. I can go to Microsoft sites but
no others.... Real funny Bill. System works fine with
Netscape or Mozilla. It seems to have happened after
downloading service pack KB824146. So you are either
vulnerable.... or you dont use IE6...at least in my case.
