XP Pro wont see Win2000

I've hooked my laptop running XP Pro directly up to my
older home PC running Win2000, with a short Cat6 crossover
cable.
The PC sees the laptop, but the laptop won't see the PC.
The netsetup.exe disk won't run on Win2000, its says every
other Win system but 2000.
I don't want to run XP Pro on my PC as this will bog it
big time, happy with 2000.
I've run add network place and set up again, but still no
sight of the PC. Can read my laptop from my Win2000 PC tho.
Any thoughts most appreciated.

can you ping w2k? also make sure no firewall running on the LAN connection.
