XP Pro Will Not Boot

My system stopped booting and stopped at a blue screen
with a stop error message. I am travelling and do not
have my original CD with me. I have a burned copy and my
CD Key.

After reading several posts, I went to MS and downloaed
the setup disks so that I could try to repair the OS.
I've gone through that exercise twice, but I am still
unable to boot. I have gotten rid of the stop message.
Now the system shows the splash screen then goes to a
black screen with just the cursor. The capslock key
lights the indicator, and the HDD light flickers from time
to time.

Can someone bail me out of this mess??!! My email address
is (e-mail address removed). If you are near Birmingham, AL,
and can help, I can come to you. I have an important
sales meeting tomorrow afternoon, and the data, files,
etc., I need are on the HDD. If I cannot fix this, the
sales meeting will have to be canceled and rescheduled.
Which means I drove over 300 miles for nothing. : /

Try a 'Repair' install - although that will mean having to
re-download/reinstall the Windows Updates:

Hi,

Thank you for the quick response. I have gone through the
repair install a couple of times already. The repair
install was the method I used to get past that stop error
code. It only gets me to the blank screen with the cursor
blinking, but no further than that.
