XP Pro Web Address Issues

I have a client's PC with XP Pro. Last week "for no
apparent reason" IE requires the complete URL to be
entered for pages to load on a timely basis. For
example, www.yahoo.com will take upwards of 5 minutes to
load, but http://www.yahoo.com will load immediately.

I am stumped, I have done KB searched and not found
anything. Last know good config did not do anything.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Is autocomplete turned on? When I do www.yahoo.com, I see the URL being
completed when the Enter or Go is toggled.
