Problems accessing certain sites

Using Windows XP Home Edition and IE version 6, cable connection.

Within the past week, for some reason I have been having trouble trying to
access certain sites. For example, it I try to go to www.espn.com or
www.yahoo.com (and there are several others), the pages do not load.
However, there are a number of other web addresses that when I type in the
addresses they load up quickly, as is normal. This has been going on now for
at least five days, and it is always the same addresses that will load up and
the same ones that will not load up. Given that I am able to access certain
sites, I am fairly certain it is not due to the connection. Can anyone give
me any ideas of what might be causing this? Thanks.

Four things to try:

1. Clear your TIF and History completely:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
Delete the folders from another admin. user profile, if clearing them via
the IE interface doesn't do the job.

2. Check your Cookies folder and delete any cookies that relate to the
sites in question. They will be in your profile - C:\Documents and
Settings\<user name>\Cookies

3. Check your Hosts file as per this article:

More info on the Hosts file:

4. Got to a Command prompt (Start...Programs...Accessories) and type in:

ipconfig /flushdns

Hit Enter.
