Some sites only load by IP

Hi,
Certain sites (like www.lnt.com), come up in my browser as "Page cannot be
displayed". If I type the IP address of the website, the site DOES load. On a
different computer the page loads by the domain name too so I know it's not
the website's DNS. Any ideas?

I installed internet explorer 7 and then uninstalled it and reverted to IE
6. It seems like at that point a bunch of pages started having problems. Do I
need to re-register plugins or dlls in IE 6?

go through these cleaning steps to see or get a clear opinion on how
clean your machine is:
= Click Start >> Control Panel>>Network and Internet Connections >> Double
click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced.
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
[ ] Disable script Debugging (internet Explorer) <= check this box
[ ] Disable Script Debugging (Other) <= check this box

Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
How to manage Add-Ons:

2.... And also for malware from here:

http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D

Run a scan from here on-line:

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym
Download Avast Cleaner from here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html
Lots of tools to download and disinfect your machine:
http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/site/Downloads/browseFreeRemovalTool/
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5

Run disk cleanup and Defrag in safe mode
Open a run command and type in:
ipconfig /flushdns click [OK]
ipconfig /renew click [OK]
netsh winsock reset click [OK]
Reboot your machine and see if the connection will hold.
Or try this winsock fixer from here (although the netsh command should
correct the winsock but not always) :
http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html

Check the setting on your TCP/IP that you are getting the IP and the DNS
Automatically from your ISP.
Run disk cleanup then this command in the run command prompt:
sfc /scannow click [OK] let it run you may need your XP CD for this
operation to accomplish.
HTH.

Check C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc for a file named HOSTS with no
extension. (Not Hosts.sam)
Make sure Windows is set to show hidden files and folders and is NOT set to
hide extensions for known file types.
If HOSTS exists, rename it to HOSTS.OLD
Reboot an try again.

Or, In a Cmd window, enter
ipconfig /flushdns
then clear your TIF also, and re-boot.
