xp pro upgrade from win 98

i recently upgraded my notebook from 98 to xp. all my
programs are there and their data however none of them
run. nothing shows on the desktop. although i could
reinstall all software i would rather not.

You probably will need to reinstall the applications with which you are
having the issue. In the meantime, you might try running the compatibility
wizard to make sure all hardware and software are compatible. Place the XP
CD in the drive, when the setup screen appears, select "Check System
Compatibility" and see if anything turns up.

As that's the only way you're going to be able to use the software again,
you don't really have much choice!
