Xp Pro Takes long time to shutdown or restart

Just recently, windows has began taking a REALLY long time
to restart or shutdown. Once I click restart, nothing seems
to happen. The only thing I notice happening at first is
that the icons in my system tray get unloaded, and my hard
drive light is on, so I know it is doing something. After
that, it takes about a minute until the desktop begins to
disappear. It only happens when Windows has been running
for a long time. I can guarantee that there are not any
viruses, or spyware/adware on my machine. Is there anyone
who has any ideas as to why this would be happening? Thanks
for your help!

Are you using an ACPI or Non ACPI compliant computer
You may want to update the Bios to the latest version to work well with your system

You should also try a clean boot and then see if you still have the issue. You may just have an application that is hung
