XP Pro start menu - cannot open icons/folders from the start menu

I cannot use thet start menu. I can open it, but when I click on most icons
(my computer, control panel, etc) nothing happens. any suggestions are
appreciated!

Hello Chad and Ramesh.

Thank you both very much for (1) addressing this problem and (2) providing
an effective solution to it!

I too had the same problem where I would go to the "Start Menu" and click on
the 'Start" button with my mouse, then highlight the "Documents" or
"Settings" menu items, and when I tried to open up any of the sub-menu items
in both of those categories, the following would NOT work or open up: "My
Documents", "My Pictures", "Control Panel", "Network Connections", and
"Printers and Faxes". Only the "Taskbar and Start Menu" item worked.

Then I took Ramesh's excellent advice and downloaded "ShellExView". I ran
the program, followed his instructions, and now everything works! Thanks
again.
