XP Pro SP1 makes kernel take 50% of CPU

Someone's post about a similar problem led me to the
solution. They mentioned disabling the onboard modem in
the BIOS, which I had already done, but then I tried
disabling Onboard Legacy Audio. That solved the problem!
The OnChip Sound is still enabled, so sound works fine,
just the SoundBlaster compatibility is turned off, but
Windows XP doesn't need it.

Weird that SP1 is sensitive to that.

This fix worked very well for me too. My Athlon Chip with
with on-chip sound was ruuning at 25-30% CPU always and
sluggish. I updated the BIOS so the extra sound/modem
codecs were turned off and now the machine is flying with
only 2-5% CPU usgae on idle. Thnaks, Jay
