I have current XP pro running with current IE-7 also running.
I can surf everywhere, even in EBAY, however I cannot open the last
link, the actual auctions.

I installed Firefox and exactly the same problem occurs. :-(

If I wait several minutes (5 or more) the auction page will sometimes open.

I can't blame IE because FF does the same thing.

My wife's computer is on the same DLS Gateway and her machine opens them
instantly. It has Win 2000 & IE-6.

Help me, I need to spend my last dollars on EBAY items.

This is not a problem but a feature built into Windows. It goes
under the name of "FSP" (Financial Self-Protection) and it works
by linking directly into your bank account, thus preventing you
from spending your last dollar on useless EBay auction items.

Seriously, you appear to have some security facility installed
on your PC that prohibits access to certain sites. Run msconfig.exe
via the Start/Run menu and disable all items under the Startup
tab except for your virus scanner, then run another test.

It could also be that your ISP has banned certain URLs. Ask
their helpdesk for more information.

This would not hold water as OP states their wife can access the pages :)
I believe the culprit lies in an ad/popup blocker setting instead.
I'll remember the FSP feature next time a user at work asks me why
something broke. ;)

"Their wife"? Is this a case of polyandry? Several big-spending
husbands being supported by one working wife?

Should have written 'his wife' or 'OP's wife'.
Please forgive me for my lousy grammar. it is friday afternoon 3:30pm :)

Thanks for the suggestions. Our wife thanks you too. :-)

I run the paid Zonealarm anti-virus/anti-spyware/anti-everything
(whatever they call it) and it has worked just fine for about three months.

I went into the setup menu and, one setting at a time, made adjustments
and tested opening Ebay auctions. About an hour into this pain I
suddenly had auctions opening like one would expect.

During my problems I seem to have had "privacy"/"cookie control" set to
"off" and "privacy"/"ad blocking" set to "medium".

When I moved ad blocking to "off", things worked fine. (Just as an
earlier post had suggested). Now I moved the setting back to medium, and
then to high and things still work fine. Next I put cookie control to
medium and things still work fine. A reboot didn't cause any problems,
things are still a-okay.

Zone must have a bug in its anti bug software (zoned out), something
that was "stuck" in a no-go mode.

All is well now, I've E-spent myself into near E-bankruptcy however my
wife's other husbands are helping me out - for a while. :-)

Glad you got things working again, and thank you for posting back the
solution to the issue.
Apologies to you both for my tired friday afternoon induced grammar, I am
glad you have a sense of humour :)
