xp pro reload

Can I reload xp with out losing my data? OR can I load xp to a different directory and still see my old files on the hard drive?

You can reinstall "over the top" of the existing OS - i.e. - into the same
folder....you should not lose any data and settings will be retained.

You can install into a new folder - this will give you a clean install, but
all applications will need to be reinstalled. You should not lose any data.

You will lose data if you delete the partition/s on your computer.

But to be safe - backup any data before even attempting either of the two
options above - you just never know what might happen!

A Repair/Install would be a good first step rather than a complete
reinstall. It will 'rebuild' XP wihtout disturbing you data or
settings. (At least is always has for me.) Boot up the XP CD and
proceed as though you were going to do a new installation. Just after
accepting the license agrrement you will be offered the chance to do a
new install or press 'R' to repair a current installation. Choose the
latter.

No matter which route you consider, a reinstall or a repair, I suggest
you consider creating new partion and keeping all of your data on it.
Move My Documents, the OE store folder, etc. out there.
