How to get back old programs after XP reload?

After getting new motherboad and CPU, I had to reload Windows XP. I am using
my old hard drives. How do I get my newly reloaded Windows to recognize the
old programs in the hard drive? Do I have to reload all previous programs?
When trying to reload Roxio Easy Media Creator 7, I had an install shield
error that stopped the reload. Reinstalled other programs without problems
(MS Office and others). Roxio (and others) are still in the hard drive, and
I suspect this is part of my problem. Thanks for any suggestions.

Do you mean you installed XP clean on a new hard drive and are trying to use
the old drive with the installed programs? If that's not the case how did
you "reload" Windows XP. Unless you did a repair install which maintains
programs and data, the old programs won't be runnable. They need to be
installed from the original media.
