XP PRO REBOOTS ON LOGIN

I have an XP PRO system in a Windows 2003 Server domain. Upon loggin in, the
system will reboot. This happens both when I log in to the local machine AND
when I login to the domain. I am able to access the system in safe mode. I've
tried a restore point, but, after one try, all of the restore points are
missing. I've scanned the drive by removing it and hanging it on a different
system. I've tried creating a new user. Has anyone ever experienced this sort
of behavior in a system? If so, what was the solution?

Thanks in advance.

In control panel--- system---advanced---startup and recovery make sure auto
restart is not set so that you can trap the error.

Check your users profile for bad shortcut (.lnk) files.
I have seen bad shortcuts on the desktop ( Ones that are in place but have
no target ) give a windows system fits.

In order to find them login in safe mode do a search for *.lnk and check the
properties to make sure they have a target file specified.
